Wrongful death: Driver charged in single-vehicle wreck

Texas police arrested the driver who they say is responsible for a fatal, drunk driving accident. The victim was a passenger in the driver's vehicle. However, being a passenger in a negligent driver's vehicle does not prevent the victim's surviving family from seeking compensation. As with many fatal accidents, families can usually seek a judgment for monetary damages through a wrongful death claim.

The wreck occurred at approximately 3 a.m., when the driver was trying to exit FM 1960. Police believe that he had trouble staying in his lane and accidentally collided with a concrete divider that separated the exit ramp from the main road. According to reports, neither the driver nor his passenger -- a woman -- were wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck.

His passenger was pronounced dead while still at the scene of the accident. Emergency responders transported the driver to the hospital, where he apparently received treatment for his injuries, although he was listed in stable condition. Testing at the hospital allegedly confirmed authorities' suspicions that he had been intoxicated at the time of the wreck.

Unexpectedly losing a loved one because of a driver's negligence can be devastating. Texas families are resilient though, and often quickly step up to deal with unexpected funeral planning and more. However, the costs associated with these damages are often higher than most families can realistically take on, and many soon find themselves struggling more than anticipated. A successfully settled wrongful death suit on behalf of their lost loved one is usually effective at achieving necessary compensation for documented financial losses.
