Victims suffer burn injuries in natural gas explosion

Two people in Texas were injured after a recent home explosion in Austin. Both of the victims suffered serious burn injuries across their bodies, for which they were hospitalized. Investigators say that the explosion was the result of a natural gas buildup, but they are still trying to figure out exactly what caused that buildup in the first place.

The explosion occurred at 1:30 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon, causing catastrophic damage to the home and significantly damaging at least one neighboring house. Five other houses and multiple vehicles were also damaged. Emergency responders noted that the victims who were in the home that exploded had critical burns across their bodies. However, they said that the injuries were likely not life-threatening.

A gas line fire broke out less than an hour later as a result of the explosion, which fire crews were able to contain. However, the current estimate for damages is already at $750,000, and it may still grow. This figure does not appear to include the medical bills that the victims will likely incur because of the explosion.

Texas Gas Service says that it is unsure of why the buildup occurred and is apparently working with investigators to narrow down the cause. While these efforts might protect other people in the future, it does not do much for the victims who already suffered burn injuries in this horrific accident. In such cases, successfully personal injury claims are often a smart path toward necessary compensation for things like medical bills, lost wages and more.
