Truck accidents: Collision sends students to hospital

A terrifying 18-wheeler accident recently sent 10 Texas students to the hospital. The driver who caused the wreck was apparently not injured. While serious injuries are not uncommon with these types of truck accidents, victims apparently only suffered minor injuries. However, this does not mean that they will not have potentially time-consuming or costly recoveries.

The driver of an 18-wheeler claims that the brakes on his vehicle failed as he was traveling on Texas Highway 71. He was apparently attempting to make a turn when, realizing that he could not stop, he tried to take evasive action to avoid causing an accident. Instead, his truck struck the highway's shoulder and ended up broadsiding the school bus, which was traveling in the same direction.

There were 19 children on the school bus at the time of the wreck, eight of whom were taken to the hospital via ambulance. Another two children were taken to the hospital by their parents, who were apparently worried about their injuries. The school bus driver also required medical attention following the collision.

When a trucking company fails to properly maintain its vehicles, accidents are a serious probability. In general, truck accidents also tend to cause severe injuries due to the sheer size and weight of the vehicle involved. As such, personal injury claims are often an essential part of the recovery process. When successfully pursued to completion, Texas victims can use any resulting compensation to address their financial, physical and emotional damages, including medical bills and long-term pain and suffering.
